A spokesperson for Purdy and Figg said: “Cleaning the house is one of the most underrated calorie-burning activities you can do for mind and body in 2022. Not only will you end up with a sparkling clean house, but an hour of housework can burn about 200 calories; the equivalent of a 25 minute jog or a Snickers barbell.
Although age, weight and gender play a role, on average it is possible to burn between 100 and 300 calories per hour while doing housework. But it will also depend on the type of chore and how vigorously you do it.
Here is how many calories a person burns doing certain activities for 30 minutes:
Scrub floors – 189 calories
Getting on all fours to scrub your floors properly rather than using a mop and bucket will add to the intensity of the activity, burning even more calories. This burns the same amount of calories as brisk walking for the same duration.
Clean kitchen/bathroom tiles – 153 calories

Clean the bathroom – 180 calories
If your tiles, bathtub, shower screen and sink need a good cleaning, you’ll burn calories. Sixty-three percent of people said that cleaning the bathroom makes them happy.
Clean the oven – 100 calories
A thorough oven cleaning involves lifting the racks in and out of the oven as well as very vigorous scrubbing of the interior walls.
Scrub the bath – 100 calories
Removing scum from your tub with a little elbow grease can burn up to 100 calories, which is the equivalent of 300 jumping jacks.
